Estate Master

Poaching is a serious offence that threatens the delicate balance of the Estate’s wildlife populations and undermines the long-established traditions of responsible land and game management. The Estate maintains a zero-tolerance approach to poaching, which is defined as the unlawful or unauthorized taking, killing, injuring, or disturbing of animals on the Estate’s grounds, including game birds, deer, hares, rabbits, and other protected or managed species. Such activities are strictly prohibited under both Estate rules and national legislation, and will be met with firm and immediate action.

The Estate employs experienced gamekeepers who play a crucial role in protecting wildlife, managing sustainable game populations, and ensuring that all hunting activities are conducted legally, ethically, and safely. These gamekeepers are empowered to patrol the land regularly, monitor for signs of illegal activity, and take preventative measures to deter poachers. They serve as both guardians of the land and as trusted points of contact for reporting concerns relating to wildlife crime.

In the event that poaching or suspicious activity is detected or reported, the Estate will act swiftly in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies and wildlife authorities to investigate and address the matter. Offenders may face the immediate revocation of any permissions or licences held on the Estate, and may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Estate is committed to pursuing all legal avenues to protect its wildlife and uphold the rule of law.

Visitors, tenants, licence holders, contractors, and all members of the Estate community are expected to respect the wildlife and the natural environment. Everyone who uses or resides on the Estate shares a responsibility to protect its resources and preserve the heritage of sustainable land use. The Estate encourages all individuals to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour or evidence of poaching without delay to the Estate office or directly to the gamekeepers. Prompt reporting enables timely intervention and helps to safeguard the wildlife and habitats under the Estate’s care.

Education and awareness are key elements in the Estate’s strategy to combat poaching. Regular communication with those living, working, and recreating on the Estate promotes understanding of the legal and ethical standards expected. Through ongoing engagement and cooperation, the Estate seeks to foster a community culture that values conservation and recognises the vital role that lawful game management plays in maintaining biodiversity and rural livelihoods.

The Estate is steadfast in its commitment to protecting its wildlife and natural heritage from the damaging impacts of poaching. With the dedicated oversight of the gamekeepers, strong partnerships with law enforcement, and the vigilance of the Estate community, the Estate strives to maintain a safe, secure, and thriving environment for its flora and fauna. Upholding these standards is essential to preserving the Estate’s rich traditions and ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the benefits of responsible stewardship.
